This is a look at the invisible Items in the new update 6 in Star Wars Galaxies.

It's no secret that the Appearance window (also known as the A-Tab) was a project that Teesquared. Throughout the design meetings, no one really brought up the idea of invisible items. The system in EQ2 had no such items (until apparently recently).

SWG has a profession dedicated solely to entertainment, and those players wear a variety of outfits that may or may not cover the whole body. SWG also has a metric ton of wearable items and the A-Tab has very few restrictions, which was a boon and a curse once players got their hands on it.

When the Appearance Tab released for the first time in December, it quickly became apparent that people wanted invisible items to help them achieve the look they wanted. One of the common requests was that players wanted to wear dresses over armor, but couldn't because the dress wouldn't hide all of the underlying armor. The A-Tab system itself was complete and working well (minus an initial crash bug that affected items on toolbars- sorry about that).

QA tested the changes the following morning and gave us the green light to release the build to the public. The Invisible Item system was such a late addition that literally if any bugs had appeared in the new code Loche and I did, the entire invisible item system would have to be removed until a later time. There was just no wiggle room on this update. Fortunately it went live and the player feedback has been overwhelmingly positive. Players understandably want more schematics and, don't fret, they're on the way.
